New Delhi hotspots with Safomasi

Sarah Fotheringham and Maninder Singh are a power couple that came up with a clever way to both work together and combine their passion for design and travel. They founded Safomasi, a brand that creates amazing screen-printed textiles based on Sarah’s illustrations, which, in turn, are inspired by their travels through India and beyond. The hard work and passion they put into their business has certainly paid off: they have a flourishing brand with a loyal following. They live and work in New Delhi and were kind enough to share a few of their favourite places to relax when they have some downtime between running their business and travelling.

Sarah: One of our favourite things to do in Delhi is pop out to eat. Here are a few of our regular places to go at the weekend:

Café Lota at the Crafts Museum

We dream about the lassi at Café Lota. Seriously, it’s the best! That’s mostly what we come for, but the food is also great – Indian with an interesting twist, like quinoa upma and bhapa doi cheesecake. It’s also nice to come to The Crafts Museum, it’s a quiet and peaceful haven in the centre of the city.

Coast Café
We hardly ever go to Hauz Khas Village any more, unless it’s to go to Coast. We love the interior, the atmosphere, the gin and tonics and most importantly the delicious, flaky Malabar paranthas. The menu covers Coastal cuisines, from Keralan curries to California-style fish tacos. We recommend it all, but especially the paranthas!

Blue Tokai
Tucked in a little lane in Saidulajab, near Saket metro station, we used to live a 2 minute walk from this brilliant little café and coffee roastery. Sadly we moved apartments before they set up, but this is one of our most regular Sunday spots. We’ll pick up coffee supplies for the studio, have a cappuccino (extra hot) and usually bump into one or two friends along the way!

Carnatic Café

This is where we come for the best dosas in Delhi. There are loads to choose from and we’ve tried a lot, but the good old Masala dosa is still our favourite. We also love the gold tables.

Naturals Ice Cream
In the summer we’ll head out for a late night ice cream treat to Naturals. Established in Mumbai in 1984, for the longest time it was one of those special things that you’d ask people travelling to bring back (you could get it packed in dry ice boxes for flights). But a couple of years ago it set up a two branches in Delhi – yay! Our top three flavours: Coconut, Almond and Mango.

Have a great weekend everyone!
