  • A parat is an object traditionally used in India for a number of daily rituals, from collecting flowers for morning prayer to kneading dough. It has been beautifully re-invented in high-quality white Makrana marble that is almost translucent. Its proportions make it an extremely versatile and stylish piece for the home: use as a fruit bowl, a serving dish or simply an objet d’art. Crafted by hand and made entirely of marble, each piece is completely unique.

  • Diameter 25cm, Height 5cm
    White Makrana marble
Each piece is made by hand, so no two pieces are identical
Hand wash only, using a gentle detergent, dry with a soft cloth
Marble is a porous natural material and may stain with coloured foods
Please note that each piece will have different veining and patterning, owing to the nature of the material. These are not faults and we cannot accept returns or refunds if you are unhappy with the colouring of your piece.

Indian Goods Co to&from modern indian marble tableware handmade stylish
to&from is the team of Indian interior designer Sowmya Singh and Dutch product designer Robert de Graaf. Their first collection is a series of handmade marble tableware poetic in form and material. Beautiful and stylish, these are multi-functional timeless pieces with their roots in everyday Indian traditions and Dutch minimalism.
We asked Somya and Bob if they would share their story with us:

Somya:
We met three years back through common Studioilse friends and soon discovered our mutual love for materials, crafts & culture. So we started to plan ways of bringing together these elements.
Bob:
Somya wanted to start the first collection from India, as she wanted to show me the hands on approach to design in India and watch me respond to it. After looking around for a while, she found the perfect small independent marble maker just outside Jaipur, Mr Jitendre. He was passionate and very excited about the thought of collaborating.

The dialogue between the makers and us was the best part; seeing how they completely disregarded the proportions we had spent months trying to master; the minute you go to the factory, it was all about paper, rock and scissors'. Cutting out shapes from old newspapers and tracing it onto marble.

Somya:
A few months later we went back to India to spend some time in Rajasthan, to observe people carrying on with their daily rituals, getting inspired by them. What we wanted was to have a first collection that reflected India but with a Dutch simplicity.

Thank you for your time Somya and Bob! We wish you much success with your beautiful brand!
